• In Western astrology, and formerly astronomy, the zodiac is divided into twelve signs, each occupying 30° of celestial longitude and roughly corresponding to the constellations Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces.
• What was once a system used for navigation using the positions of stars later took on the idea that one's personality was determined by the position of the constellations on one's date of birth. Although this idea has largely been discredited by modern psychology and science, the idea seems to live on.
